Taj Mahal （タジマハ-ル インド）

今月はインドのタジマハールに行きましょう。タジマハールは首都ニューデリーから南へ高速鉄道で2時間、アグラの町にあり、ヤムナの川岸に建つ壮大なムガール王朝の廟です。世界七不思議のひとつでもあります。
The Taj Mahal is a mausoleum located in Agra, India, built by Mughal emperor Sha Jahan in memory of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahar. Taj Mahal means 'crown of buildings' in Urdo. The Taj Mahal (also known as 'the Taj')is considered the finest example of Mughal architecture, a style that combines elements from Islamic, Indian and Persian architectural styles.
Buildings of the Taj began around 1632 and was completed around 1653, and employed thousands of artisans and craftsmen.
(タジマハールはアグラにある御陵でムガール王シャージャハンが愛するお妃ムムタズマハールを偲んで造ったものです。タジマハールはウルドウ語で建物の王冠という意味です。別名タジとも呼ばれムガール建築の最高傑作と考えられています。イスラム、インドそしてペルシャ建築を合わせた様式です。タジ建設は1632年に始まり1653年に完成され、何千人もの大工や職人が雇われました。

Mughal Empire ムガール帝国 1526年から19世紀半ばまでインド亜大陸を支配した帝国。
Sha Jahan 1627～1658にムガール帝国の国王。タジマハールの建造をしたことで有名。
中日文子はアグラにやって来ました。現地ガイドのモハンに案内を頼みます。
| Mohan: | It's nice to meet you. My name is Mohan. I am your guide and would like to show you around the Taj Mahal. Is this your first time in India? |
| Fumiko: | Hi! I'm Fumiko. No, it's my second visit to India, but the first time to Agra. I saw the Taj on TV and have wanted to see it really. |
| Mohan: | Good idea! Because the Taj is the greatest Islamic monument in India, or even in the world. You cannot depart India without seeing the Taj. |
| Fumiko: | You bet. I understand it was built by a Mughal emperor in memory of his beloved wife. |
| Mohan: | That's right. It was built by Emperor Sha Jahan in 1653 who loved his wife, Mumtaz so much that he had a lot of jewelry embedded in these rooms. It was the peak of Mughal Empire that ruled most of Indian subcontinent until the mid-19th century. |
| Fumiko: | I wish I were loved so much by my husband. |
| Mohan: | Well, there's more important things than jewelry. |
| Fumiko: | What is it? |
| Mohan: | It's your heart. |
| Fumiko: | Is that what you said when you married your wife? |
| Mohan: | Yes, but she wanted both. |
| モハン： | はじめまして。モハンと申します。タジマハールをご案内します。インドは初めてですか？ |
| 文子 ： | こんにちは。文子と申します。インドは2度目ですがアグラは初めてです。テレビでタジマハールを見て実際に見たいと思っていました。 |
| モハン： | それはいい考えですね。というのはタジはインドのイスラムの遺跡では一番大きいんですよ、いや世界1かな。タジ見ずしてインド去るなかれと言いますからね。 |
| 文子 ： | でしょうね。タジはムガール国王が愛する奥方を偲んで作ったと理解していますが。 |
| モハン： | その通りです。1653年にシャージャハン国王によって作られました。国王はムムタズ王妃をとっても愛していたのでこれらの部屋に宝石を埋め込んだのです。19世紀半ばまでインド亜大陸の殆どを支配したムガール帝国の絶頂期でした。 |
| 文子 ： | 私もそれくらい夫に愛されたいわ。 |
| モハン： | 宝石よりもっと大事なものがあります。 |
| 文子 ： | あら、何かしら？ |
| モハン： | ハートですよ。 |
| 文子 ： | そうやって奥さんを口説き落としたのね？ |
| モハン： | ええ、でも彼女はどちらも欲しいって言いました。 |
タジマハールは世界七不思議といわれるだけあって壮大です。インドにはイスラム文明を象徴する遺跡がたくさんありますが、タジマハールもその一つです。アグラには他にも見物するところが沢山あります。ゆっくり時間をとってお楽しみください。では
