皆さんこんにちは。今月は中日文子はネパールにあるロイヤルチトワン国立公園を訪れます。ここはインドとの国境近くにあるネパール初の国立公園で、東西80km南北23kmに及ぶ広大な地域内に絶滅寸前のインドサイやベンガルトラをはじめ、世界の鳥類の5％、約400種の鳥が生息しています。エレファントライデイングやバードウォッチングなど自然を満喫できるアクテイビテイが沢山楽しめます。その起点となるソウラハの宿にも沢山鳥がやってきます。ではこのチトワン公園の簡単な説明を英文で見ましょう。

Royal Chitwan National Park

At the foot of the Himalayas, Chitwan is one of the few remaining undisturbed vestiges of the 'Terai' region, which formerly extended over the foothills of India and Nepal. It has a particularly rich flora and fauna. One of the last populations of single-horned Asiatic rhinoceros lives in the park, which is also one of the last refuges of the Bengal tiger.

ヒマラヤのふもとに位置するチトワンは「テライ」地方の残り少ない未開発地区であり、もとはインド、ネパールの山麓にも広がっていた。ここは特に豊富な動植物が生息している。公園には世界最後の一角サイ（インドサイ）がいて、そこはまたベンガルタイガーの最後の棲みかでもある。

Dialog 1 (Fumiko travels to Royal Chiwan National Park with her Nepalese friend, Ganga and their guide.)
Fumiko:	I'm so excited. It's been my dream to see the Himalayas so close. My dream has come true. And now we're visiting Chitwan Park where we can see wild animals.
Ganga:	Here we can see single-horned rhinoceroses and Bengal tigers.
Fumiko:	Can you get close to the animals?
Ganga:	Close enough to take photos of them. But we've got to be careful not to disturb them.
Guide:	The animals are shy and cautious of people.
Fumiko:	Then they are not always seen in the park?
Guide:	No, not always. But if we are lucky, we can spot some. Look! You can see a rhino there to your left behind the bush. See its big buttocks?
Fumiko:	Oh, my! How big it is! Let me take a photo.
Gasnga:	Now it's turning around. You can see its head. It's coming this way!
Fumiko:	Oh, no! I'm scared.
Guide:	Don't worry. They don't attack people. But stay quiet.

会話１ （文子ネパール人の友達ガンガとガイドと一緒にロイヤルチトワン国立公園に行きます。）
文子　：	私とてもわくわくしているの。ヒマラヤをまじかに見るのが夢だったの。実現したのよ。そして、今からチタワン公園へ野生の動物を見にいくのね。
ガンガ　：	ここでは一角サイ（インドサイ）やベンガルタイガーが見られるのよ。
文子　：	動物の近くまで行けるの？
ガンガ　：	写真が撮れるくらいまではね。でも動物の邪魔にならないように気をつけなければね。
ガイド　：	彼らは恥ずかしがり屋で人間を警戒します。
文子　：	じゃ、いつも見られるということはないのね？
ガイド　：	はい、いつもではありません。でも運がよければ見られますよ。 ほら見て。左の方、木陰にサイが見えるでしょう。大きなお尻がみえる？
文子：	まあ、大きいのね！写真をとるわ。
ガンガ：	みて！こっちを向いたわ。顔見えるでしょう。　こっちへやってくるわ。
文子：	いやだ、怖いわ。
ガイド　：	心配しないで。人は襲わないから。でも静かにしていてくださいね。

ロイヤルチタワン公園へのアクセスはポカラ、又はカトマンズからソウラハへの直行バスがあり、どちらも約6～7時間程度かかります。自然の好きな人にはおもしろいところです。では又、来月お会いしましょう。Have a nice trip!（楽しい旅行を！）
