さて今回は中日文子は韓国の慶州を旅行します。日本から二時間足らずで行ける韓国。慶州はその南東部にある７世紀から10世紀に繁栄した新羅の首都でありました。では慶州に関する簡単な説明を見ましょう。

Gyeongju is the former capital of the kingdom of Silla, which ruled most of Korea in the 7th to the 9th century. Due to a history of more then 1,000 years as the residence of Korean rulers it holds a rich heritage of sights and remains of that period. The city undertakes a lot of effort to preserve that heritage.
Today's Gyeongju has a population of around 260,000, but retains a small-city feel and is fairly easy to get around. Not many foreigners make it here, so tourists should expect some attention from the locals, but if you approach them openly, you will be rewarded with lots of interesting and positive interaction.

慶州は7世紀から9世紀にかけて韓国の殆どを支配した王国、新羅の元の首都です。
1,000年以上も韓国支配者が住んでいたためその当時の多くの光景や遺物を残しています。慶州の町はその遺産を残すための努力に取り組んでいます。
今日の慶州は人口約26万人ですが小都市の感じがする町でかなり簡単に見て回れます。あまり外国人も訪れないので旅行者は地元の人たちから注目されることもありますが、心を開いて接すれば面白い、しかも前向きな出会いがあるでしょう。

さて今回中日文子は韓国のソウルにいますが、時間があるので韓国のもう一つの世界遺産である慶州に行って見ることにしました。今、ソウルのある観光案内所にいます。

Dialog 1
Fumiko:	Good afternoon. Can I ask for some information about Gyeongju? I'd like to go sightseeing Gyeongju tomorrow.
Attendant:	Yes, ma'am. What would like to know?
Fumiko:	I want to make a day trip there by train. Is it possible?
Attendant:	Yes, it IS possible. But it takes about five hours to Busan by express train and another hour to Gyeongju by bus. If you have only one day, I suggest you fly there. It's much faster.
Fumiko:	Really? I wanted to see the countryside from the train. But I'll save it for another time. How long does it take to Gyeongju by air?
Attendant:	There are no airports in Gyeongju. You fly to Busan and then take an express bus from the airport. It takes 40 minutes to Busan Airport and one hour to Gyeongju. The bus runs from the airport every hour.
Fumiko:	I see. Can you tell me about some of the major sights of Gyeongju?
Attendant:	Certainly. The most famous place is Bulguksa Temple which is regarded as a masterpiece of Buddhist art. And you can _ _ _ _.

文子　：	こんにちは。慶州のことでお聞きしたいのですが。明日慶州に観光にいきたいと思っております。
係り：	はい、どんなことがお知りになりたいですか？
文子　：	電車で日帰り旅行したいのですが、できるでしょうか？
係り：	ええ、もちろん出来ますが、急行電車で釜山まで五時間、それから慶州までバスで一時間かかります。一日しかないなら飛行機で行かれるのをお勧めします。そのほうがずーと速いです。
文子　：	そうですか。電車から田舎を見たかったのですが、他の時にします。慶州まで飛行機でどのくらいかかりますか？
係り：	慶州には空港がありません。釜山まで行き、空港から急行バスに乗ります。釜山空港まで40分、慶州まで一時間です。バスは空港から毎時間出ます。
文子　：	わかりました。慶州の主な観光地を教えてくれますか？
係り：	はい、最も有名な所は仏国寺で仏教美術の傑作と言われています。それから。。。。

Can I ask for ~?: 何か頼む時の表現です。forのあとは名詞又は動名詞が続きます。　
make　a day trip: 一日（日帰り）旅行をする。
I suggest (that) ～：　（that）以下のことを勧めます。
fly：飛ぶ、飛行機でいく。travel by air(plane)とも言えます。
save it for another day: それを他の時のためにとっておく。

Dialog 2
(Fumiko is now in Gyeongju at Bulguksa Temple(仏国寺). She speaks to a local.)
Fumiko:	Excuse me. Do you speak English?
Local woman:	Yes, I do.
Fumiko:	What a relief! I've been looking for a person who understands English. Are you a student?
Local woman:	Yes, I am. I'm a university student. Are you Japanese?
Fumiko:	Yes I am. I'm sightseeing Gyeongju for the first time. This temple is beautiful and looks pretty old.
Local woman:	Yes, it was built in the 8th century during the Silla Kingdom. Possibly it's the most impressive temple in Korea.
Fumiko:	At the main prayer hall, I see people pay respect by bowing deeply.
Local woman:	Yes, it's a working temple, so we treat the site with the respect it deserves.
Fumiko:	I can see that.

（文子は慶州の仏国寺に来ています。地元の人に話しかけます。）
文子　：	すみません。英語は話しますか？
地元女性：	はい、話しますよ。
文子　：	よかった。英語がわかる人を探してたのよ。学生さん？
地元女性：	はい、そうです。大学生です。あなたは日本人ですか？
文子　：	そうよ。はじめて慶州に観光できたのよ。このお寺美しくて、かなり古そうね。
地元女性：	はい、8世紀新羅王朝の時代に建立されました。おそらく韓国で最も立派なお寺だと思います。
文子　：	本堂で深くお辞儀をしておまいりしている人たちがいますね。
地元女性：	はい、ご利やくのあるお寺だからそれなりに丁重にお参りします。
文子　：	納得できるわ。

What a relief! ほっとする。助かった！　ｒeliefは助け。動詞はrelieveです。
