こんにちは、今回は中国の西安を訪れて見ることにしましょう。西安はその昔長安と呼ばれ、シルクロードの東の拠点でした。ここに西洋の文化が伝わり、逆に中国から中東を経て西洋に東洋の文化が伝わったその始点でした。そのためここには多様な文化が見られます。とくにイスラム文化も共存していてイスラム地区は旅行者の穴場です。そして日本人の旅行者によく知られる世界遺産として兵馬傭が有名です。では簡単な西安の案内文を見ましょう。

Xi'an 'Western Peace' (historically known as Chang) is the capital of the Shanxi province in the People's Republic of China and a sub-provincial city. As one of the oldest cities in Chinese history, Xi'an is one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China because it has been the capital of some of the most important dynasties in Chinese history, including the Zhou, Qin, Han, the Sui and Tang dynasties. Xi'an is the eastern terminus of the Silk Road and home of the Terracotta Army which was made during the Qin Dynasty. The city has more than 3,100 years of history and was known as Chang'an before the Ming Dynasty.

西安（以前の長安）は中華人民共和国峡西省の首都ですが（国内では）地方都市です。西安は中国の歴史上最古の都市として四大王朝の首都でした。歴史上最も重要な王朝、周、秦、漢、隋唐の時代の首都でした。そして西安はシルクロードの東の終点でもあり秦の時代に作られた土像の兵馬隊が発掘された所でもあります。この都市は明朝以前は長安と知られ３１００年の歴史があります。

Fumiko:	Yes, I am. Are you the guide from the tour company?
Wang:	Yes. My name is Wang with Xi'an Tours Co. Nice to meet you.
Fumiko:	Nice to meet you, too.
Wang:	I'm sorry to have kept you waiting. The traffic was so heavy.
Fumiko:	It's all right. I came down from my room only a few minutes ago.
Wang:	We're happy to show you the Terracotta Army burial mounds. It takes about 30 minutes to get there.
Fumiko:	I'm so excited to see it. I've always wanted to see the terracotta army in person.
Wang:	Yes, it is quite interesting. There are thousands of them; the warriors, horses and others.
Fumiko:	They were discovered recently, weren't they?
Wang:	Yes, they were found in 1974 by a farmer living in the area.
Fumiko:	I imagine he became famous.
Wang:	Oh, yes. And he became a rich man, too. Shall we go then? We have a taxi waiting outside.
Fumiko:	Great!

王：	おはようございます。中日文子さんですね。
文子　：	ええ、そうよ。あなたは旅行会社のガイドさんですね？
王：	はい。西安ツアーの王です。はじめまして。
文子　：	よろしく。
王：	お待たせしてすみませんでした。道路が混んでいまして。
文子　：	いいのよ。私もちょっと前に部屋から下りてきたばかりですから。
王：	今日は兵馬傭にご案内します。そこまで約３０分かかります。
文子　：	うれしいわ。兵馬傭をずうっと自分の目で見たかったのよ。
王：	かなりおもしろいですよ。兵士や馬の土像などが何千とあります。
文子　：	最近発見されたんですよね。
王：	はい、１９７４年にそのあたりに住んでいた農夫が見つけたんですよ。
文子　：	きっとその人有名になったでしょうね。
王：	ええ、金持ちにもなりましたよ。さあ、行きましょうか。そとにタクシーを待たせていますから。
文子　：	いいわ。

Wang:	They were made 3000 years ago during the Qin dynasty and buried later. They were unearthed only 30 years ago.
Fumiko:	These soldiers, they were pretty big men.
Wang:	Yes, they are well-built. They must have been selected soldiers, or so-called elite corps.
Fumiko:	I'm surprised that they had techniques to make such works as these so long ago.
Wang:	During the Qin dynasty they had the pretty advanced civilization and the Emperor had a great power.
Fumiko:	I can imagine.

（文子と王は兵馬傭に来ています。）
文子　：	まあ。あの土像を見て。驚きだわ。
王：	３０００年前の秦朝の時代に作られて後で埋められたんですよ。３０年前に発掘されたばかりなんです。
文子　：	これらの兵士はかなり大きい男たちですね。
王：	はい、体格がいいですね。彼らは選ばれた兵士で、いわばエリート集団だったのでしょうね。
文子　：	そんな昔にこのような作品を作る技術があったなんて驚きだわ。
王：	秦朝の時代にはかなり進んだ文明があって帝王は強大な権力がありました。
文子　：	そうでしょうね。

西安は町の中心を明の時代に作られた高い城壁が取り囲み当時をしのばせる雰囲気のある古都です。
シルクロードの東の拠点なので文化の中心地であったことが感じられます。その昔日本からも柿元人麻呂など遣隋使、遣唐使もここを目指した都で有名な寺もあり、また西方から人々が訪れ、回教寺院もたくさん見られます。郊外には兵馬傭や秦始皇帝御陵なども楽しめます。では皆さん、再見。
