The Redwood National and State Parks (RNSP) are located in the United States, along the coast of northern California.

The trees in the parks are the tallest and one of the most massive tree species on Earth. In addition to the redwood forests, the parks preserve other indigenous flora, fauna, grassland prairie, cultural resources, portions of rivers and other streams and 37 miles (60 km) of pristine coastline.
The tallest tree in the park was Hyperion at 379.1 feet (115.5m) as of September 2006. Mature coast redwoods live an average of 500-700years and a few are 2000 years old. Redwood prefer sheltered slopes, slightly inland and near water sources such as rivers and streams. The tree is closely related to the Giant Sequoia of central California and more distantly to the Dawn Redwood which is indigenous to the Sichuan-Hubei region of China.

Robert: Here we are in the Redwood National Parks! Here you can see the biggest trees on Earth.
Fumiko: Wow! It's amazing! These are the biggest trees I've ever seen.
Robert: Some of them are over 100 meters high. Humans look small in the woods.
Fumiko: How do they grow so big?
Robert: They have the right climate and soil. They are indigenous to North America.
Fumiko: Are there animals peculiar to this region?
Robert: Yes. There are animals like black bears, mountain lions, bobcats, beavers, etc.
Fumiko: The forests ARE natural and national treasures.
Robert: Yes, they are. But many of the flora and fauna are endangered species now.
Fumiko: So they must protect and preserve these forests.
Robert: That's right.

/td>
